The Dog House is filmed at the Woodgreen Pets Charity in Cambridgeshire.

Located in Godmanchester, Woodgreen first opened in 1987 and is one of the largest animal rehoming centres in the whole of Europe, spanning 43 acres.

Woodgreen's efforts help the animals find a loving home again, or sometimes even for the first time in their lives. Every year, Woodgreen supports over 8,000 pets and people with their care and expert advice.

While some rescue centres only rehome their animals locally, the show says that the location of the adopters can be flexible, with each dog treated on a case-by-case basis.

The participants on the Channel 4 show don’t know ahead of time which dog they will be matched with, and their first meeting is an authentic “blind date”.

Many of the dogs, cats and other animals that come into their care require urgent medical treatment, time, and training. They also work on helping the particularly anxious dogs to build their confidence.

With the addition of foster workers, all of this work helps the animals get closer to adoption.

Speaking about their work, Pet advisor Lizzie, whose job it is to match people to rescue pets, previously explained how important it is to be featured on the Channel 4 series.

She said: "I think it's really important for Woodgreen to showcase what we do. Rescue is such a big area but nobody really sees the full span of everything that goes on from the animals entering the shelter, all the work that the teams do, right through to rehoming.

"What the TV show has done for us is give a really good insight into how much work and dedication the team put into each and every single pet that we get. And that's really key to keep the donations coming in and keep the public supporting us because without that it wouldn't happen, we wouldn't be able to do what we do."
