Former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has announced the birth of her daughter, revealing her cute name in the process.

The actor, who played Amy Pond on the BBC sci-fi show for three years before her departure in 2013, married comedian Nick Kocher in May 2022 during a ceremony in Scotland, with the pair announcing in September that they were expecting a child.

In a post on Instagram, which included several photos of the happy family, Gillan confirmed that she had given birth to a baby girl, continuing by revealing her name as she wrote: “2024 thank you for giving us Clementine🍊”

“Also as per the last slide – I shot a film called Let’s Have Kids right as I got preggo in real life so take that Daniel Day Lewis,” added the star – who has also featured in the Jumanji film series – as she referenced the famous method actor.

The post was greeted by several messages of congratulations in the comment section, with one user referencing Gillan’s character from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as they wrote: “She's beautiful congratulations Karen!!! Nebula is a mommy!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

“Clementine is the cutest name I love her 🥹🧡🫶🏼” wrote one follower, with a second writing: “Clementine’s a beautiful name, especially if she has Mum’s hair 🔥😂Congratulations 💖” This sentiment was echoed by a third user, who added: “Omg congratulations!!!!! Clementine is a super cute name! ❤️”

There were also comments from several famous faces, with The Walking Dead star Tom Payne writing: “Congrats! Welcome to a new life 😂🥰” David Dastmalchian, who starred alongside Gillan in All Creatures Here Below also commented as she sent five love heart emojis.

“Ahhh !! Congratulations 🥹🩷🩷” wrote former Coronation Street and current Doctor Who star Millie Gibson, whilst Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein commented: “Ahhhhhhh CONGRATULATIONS you three ❤️”
