Doctor shares recipe for 'healthy' 4-ingredient banana bread - and it's so easy to make
A doctor has shared her recipe for a ‘healthy’, easy four-ingredient banana bread.
Divya Sharma, a GP who shares simple and quick recipes on Instagram, has shown how you can make an easy banana bread. The recipe calls for bananas, peanut butter, eggs and baking powder but no flour or sugar. Chopped chocolate can also be added but it is not an essential ingredient. The doctor, who goes by doctorbowl on Instagram, shared a reel about the banana bread.
Dr Sharma wrote “PSA you’ve created the most delicious healthy banana bread that contains NO sugar of flour” for the on-screen text for the reel. She listed the ingredients in the caption: “3 ripe bananas, 1 cup drippy peanut butter, 2 eggs, 1 tsp baking powder, chopped chocolate (optional)”.

For the method the GP instructed: “Preheat oven 180C. In a large bowl mix together all the ingredients. Pour mixture into a prepared loaf tin. Top with chocolate (optional). Bake for 50-55 minutes.”
The Instagram reel has had a staggering 44.6 million views, 716,000 likes and more than 3,000 comments. It has also been shared 30,000 times. Someone who made the banana bread said: “I made this recipe this morning! It was a success! My daughter loves it! Thank you for the recipe”.
Another Instagram user added: “Oh my goodness this was super good. I made this tonight and I was surprised (at) how fluffy it came out! I used Trader Joe’s dark chocolate chips. I’m going to have to put it away so that I don’t eat the whole thing! Thank you!”
A third commented: “I made this recipe tonight and I’m so impressed with its texture! It’s soft and fluffy. The chocolate brought the perfect amount of sweetness. My 5 year old asked for seconds and is bringing a slice for his school snack tomorrow.”
However, not everyone had such a positive reaction to the recipe. Some questioned how ‘healthy’ it is as one of the ingredients listed in the caption is chocolate which does have sugar but the doctor repeated to users in the comment section that the use of chocolate is optional.
Others doubted how healthy peanut butter is. One person said: “Imagine thinking peanut butter is a health food in 2024”.
Some Instagram users hit back at those who claimed the recipe is not healthy. One said: “My lord do people not understand when others say ‘no sugar’ they’re talking about added processed sugar. Not naturally occurring sugar.”
A second chimed in: “To all of the comments hating: In the recipe it says the chocolate is optional, if you use actual NATURAL peanut butter, it is quite good for you (it’s pure ground peanuts). It’s good protein and the point is that it’s a healthy alternative to regular banana bread. I think this is great!”
