If you’ve been putting off tackling home projects in 2024, let 2025 be your year! You might have a list of things already brewing that you know you want to take on, or you might just be feeling like you want a change but aren’t sure where to start. For those that fall into the latter category, there’s pretty much a moving library full of inspiration and home projects in hyperspeed on TikTok (and there’s tons of room makeover inspiration on Apartment Therapy, of course).

TikTok users have been sharing their DIY design projects and clever time- and money- saving home hacks for years at this point, but what’s going to be top of mind in 2025? I spoke to top creators to find out.

Pattern-on-Pattern

Tina Le Mac (@tinalemac), who shares clever DIYs with her 55.5K followers, thinks pattern mixing is going to be big in 2025 — fitting because Pinterest chose Mix & Maximalism for one of their 2025 trend predictions, too. (There’s some cross-platform confirmation for you!)

“It’s a fun, unexpected way to add interest to even the smallest of details,” Tina says. “Whether you’re mixing fabrics, wallpapers, or tiles, there are so many ways to mix and match patterns in your DIYs.”

Not-Your-Average Peel-and-Stick

Lauren Comer (@pinchplateparty) began DIYing in 2020 and has seen her fair share of trends come and go. For 2025, she believes that peel and stick will dominate in 2025, but in a way that feels fresh.

“I’m seeing a shift in flooring trends for DIYers,” she says. “They seem to be shifting away from DIY painted floor tiles to installing owner- and renter-friendly options like peel-and-stick patterned and solid tiles. I think the rise of elevated options like the floor pop tiles by Chris Loves Julia are really shifting the trend in DIY options to cover up out of date or unsightly floor tiles.”

Even More Wainscoting and Molding

DIY fan Aurora (@auroramccausland) predicts that people will still be adding architectural details to cookie-cutter homes. Her answer to what DIY projects will be trending in 2025? “Wainscoting and panel molding!” she says. “They’re already getting popular, but I think we are going to see even more texture and vintage-style designs next year.”

A Lived-In Look

Imperfections are in for 2025, according to DIYer and home stylist Claire Douglas (@clairedouglasstyling). Think rustic materials, upcycling, and vintage inspiration.

“I personally think that anything too matchy-matchy or perfect show-home-like is going to be ditched in favor of a more realistic, authentic, and lived-in look,” she says. “Dark woods will no longer be painted over but instead take center stage along with other vintage finds and lots of classic and timeless details rather than faddy trends.” So, perhaps what’s trending for 2025 is … ditching trends altogether?

Vintage-Inspired Wallpapers

If you’re looking to shake up your design for the year ahead, get ahead of the curve and consider making wallpapering your next DIY project. Sharn (@sharnshouse) predicts that bright and bold wallpapers will be popular this year, with vibrant patterns taking center stage.

“I feel like the tide is turning from the slick minimalistic interiors of the 2010s, and people are now embracing more traditional and ornate designs again, so I think that wallpapering is going to be BIG in 2025,” she predicts. “No more plain walls or even graphic wall murals. It’s going to be all about pretty prints and texture on your walls.”

Maximalism Meets Minimalism

Minimalism and maximalism come and go thanks to varying trends but, according to Dennis and Andrew (@craftylumberjacks), 2025 is the year that they exist together in harmony. “Over the past couple of years we saw a big shift from maximalism to minimalism; 2025 is going to bring us into a sweet spot right in the middle of both,” they explain. Think of it as minimalist maximalism, a sort of Goldilocks-just-right approach.

Curves and Cutouts

DIYer Sana Sherwani (@apieceofmyglamhome) believes that curves and grooves will replace minimalistic clean, sharp lines in 2025 — whether that’s adding some curve appeal to your headboard, creating a curved or wavy mirror, or making a square doorway arched.

“One of the most popular trends, and personally my favorite, is the inclusion of arches,” she says. “They bring a sense of elegance and timelessness to any space. Beyond their grand appearance, arches soften hard lines, break up the monotony of straight edges, and create a unique sense of depth and dimension.”
