Diotima Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear: Rachel Scott Is Ready for Liftoff
Fresh off her CFDA Emerging Designer Award win, Diotima designer Rachel Scott upped the ante with her fall 2024 collection, shown Monday night in a presentation format with rum cocktails that nodded to her Caribbean heritage.
“There are some things I’d been doing before but not in such a big way. With so many more eyes on the brand this time, I wanted to expand the language. It’s crochet but also tailoring, knitwear, macramé. The foundation of the collection is always handmade and savoir-faire, but I really wanted to blast it with craft.”

From the look of it, she’s ready for liftoff.
Blast it she did with vivid color versions of her sculptural crochet sleeveless tunics that looked cool under blazers, miniskirts and curve-tracing dresses, constructed from overlapping doilies clinging to the body like sea creatures. There were also extraordinary macramé dresses in curve-hugging shapes with loop and fringe details. Metallic Lurex ribbon and crystals were crafted into flowers on a gorgeous vest and clutch bag that could represent a burgeoning new accessories category for the designer. And Scott offered her vision of “fur” jackets made from knotted spaghetti string fringe, which also trimmed a pantsuit, giving it a western vibe.
“I like playing with texture so much,” the designer said, explaining how she punched a cotton caftan dress through with a jumbo mesh panel and expanded on the knit mesh idea to make intarsia knitwear that’s warm and cozy but with a hint of skin.
The collection has grown 30 percent in size. “I’m trying to build out the brand. We don’t have a store, obviously, but I want to bring people into the world more. I just got a studio and want to try to build out that space so I can have people in,” she said. “I want to have that connection.”
