Dennys Now Makes Pancakes Topped With Pop Rocks
When you envision the origin story of intergalactic scoundrel/heartthrob/deep-v-rocking badass, surely you think of Denny's. It's about as close as Earth-dwellers can get to a raucous cantina, you know, if you replace the lasers with Grand Slams and the alien's snappy songs with smooth jazz.
Okay, so the connection may not be totally obvious, but LucasFilm is teaming up with the diner chain for a special collaboration tied to Solo: A Star Wars Story. The partnership includes limited-edition trading cards featuring the movie's characters, as well as an exclusive menu. Some dishes are just creatively titled rebrands of traditional meals, like the Lightspeed Slam - essentially a Fit Slam made up of scrambled egg whites with spinach and grape tomatoes, served with turkey bacon, fruit, and an English muffin. But the true showstopper is the Co-Reactor Pancakes.
It uses Denny's new pancake recipe, featuring buttermilk for a fluffier flapjack, and it's topped with strawberries, strawberry syrup, and whipped cream. Sounds ordinary, right? Then they hand you citrus sauce and Crystal Crunch Rocks to garnish the meal yourself. As the tangy, acidic sauce hits the crunch rocks, they start fizzing and popping, much like Pop Rocks. Suddenly, breakfast is part science experiment.
Adding popping candy to dishes has become a fast food trend over the past few months, with Taco Bell adding it to slushies and burritos, and Dippin' Dots adding it to their ice cream. Denny's didn't stop with pancakes, though - the chain is also letting people add a side of Crystal Crunch Rocks to any milkshake, so it fizzes and crackles too.
These dishes, as well as a ghost pepper sauce-slathered Blaster Fire Burger and a Two Moons Skillet (spoiler: the 'moons' are eggs), are available now, even though the movie doesn't hit theaters until May 25. The brand's already been warned that they won't be on the menu forever though, so unless your ride's faster than the Millennium Falcon, you better hit up the diner, stat.
