The Denim Silhouettes That Will Become Part of Your Everyday Fall Uniform
For the most part, jeans are timeless and relatively trend-resistant, though certain rises and silhouettes do slowly cycle in and out of popularity. At the top of the year, we predicted 2024's biggest jean trends, and now that we're in the year's final quarter, it's a good time to take stock and figure out our go-to denim for fall.
Last year, we saw a lot of cargo pockets and low-rise baggy jeans in the denim department, and we're continuing those utilitarian themes of comfort and ease: Oversized jeans continue to be popular, either in the form of loose straight legs or something dramatically wide. Both imbue an effortless feel and are easy to dress up or down. For those that prefer something fitted, bootcut jeans are also reemerging as an autumn staple apt for anything.
Perhaps the strongest budding player, though, is the barrel silhouette; the balloon look is proving extremely popular amongst designers and street-style stars alike. Their bow-legged shape may look intimidating, but I've recently been converted to the statement-making (and surprisingly flattering) silhouette: Even with minimal styling, they look poised and purposeful however they're worn.
Besides typical medium- and dark-blue washes for the colder months, there are a couple of unique finishes you can opt for instead, like shades of brown denim or bold animal prints. Leopard jeans have been reaching peak popularity in recent months and you can give the trend a try in any silhouette of your choosing via brands like Damson Madder, Ganni and Kwame Adusei.
