Death In Paradise 'confirms' why Dwayne is really back on Saint Marie amid dad's poor health
Death In Paradise will see a surprise return this Christmas - as Dwayne's father Nelson returns.
Detective Inspector Don Gilet will make his first appearance this festive season as DI Mervin Wilson, replacing the recently departed DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) who left to travel the Caribbean with his love interest Florence Cassell.
It has been confirmed Nelson will be returning to the island. Dwayne came back last series when Marlon Pryce made a sudden departure from the island to support his sister, who was heading to Jamaica for her schooling.
Dwayne was welcomed back into the team by Commissioner Selwyn Patterson and DS Naomi Thomas, but his former flame Darlene Curtis was less impressed to see him back. When he reunited with the team, he said his father would be joining them on the island soon, but he decided to come back first to help out the Saint Marie police.

He later told Darlene that his father was ill and that's why they had to come back to Saint Marie. "Really? I understand doc," Dwayne could be heard saying on the phone, but when Darlene asked if he was ok, he just said that his father would be arriving tomorrow.
When she quizzed him about what the doctor had really said, Dwayne admitted: "The old goat doesn't have as much life left in him as I've been making out, but that's why I'm really back. This is where he wants to spend the rest of his days."
However, could it be that Dwayne is actually back for a whole other reason? We know he is close to his father, but women has been the primary focus for Dwayne throughout the previous series. Could Dwayne actually be back for Darlene?
In this Christmas' episode, Don Warrington will return as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson as will Shantol Jackson (DS Naomi Thomas), Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Élizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.
This festive season, fans can expect Mervin (Don Gilet) ruffling some feathers as he tries to solve the murders of three unconnected men, all who were shot wearing Santa Claus outfits. His investigation methods don't quite gel with the team, whilst Dwayne has some trouble at home as his Christmas with his father doesn’t exactly go to plan - but what happens?
Death In Paradise's Christmas special will air this December on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
