This Couple Bought the Coziest Tiny Home Straight from Disney
The tiny living community is getting a magical addition. Several tiny house enthusiasts now own a piece of Disney Park history after an Orlando, Florida-based company called J&J Venture Group listed some 500-square-foot wooden cabins that used to be housed at its Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. The now-viral $49,900 Disney cabins have now completely sold out with a waitlist for potential future units, and a couple who’s remodeling their new tiny home gave fellow Disney fans a look inside their tiny home — and all the original furnishings and accessories that came with their historic house.
People first tapped Grace and Jacob Kocher for an inside look at their new compact abode, which they reportedly purchased earlier this year. In a video shared on their Instagram, the Florida-based couple shared that they found out that Disney was planning to replace its older cottages — which were built between 1998 and 2001— at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground with newer structures on July 1.
They then reached out to the Facebook listing and purchased the fully furnished cabin for under $50,000 including A/C, rustic wooden chairs and tables, a TV, wall sconces, a fully outfitted kitchen and bathroom, and more, per a video tour they shared on Instagram.
According to the Facebook listing, each cabin is 500 square feet and sleeps up to six people, offering more sleeping space than usual for a tiny home.
Once the cabin was delivered to the Kochers in June, they began their renovation work while geeking over some of the hidden Disney Easter eggs, telling People that the “original resort phone and the bath products on the shower wall” in addition to the furniture and decor pieces were some of the unexpected finds that helped ensure a lasting nostalgia in the space.
The couple, who previously lived in an RV, have been sharing their renovation journey on Instagram, including how they recently prepped it for Hurricane Helene after talking about the “lack in quality, craftsmanship, and character in new builds” in their People profile.
Inside, they’ve unveiled their newly painted green kitchen cabinets while swapping in brass hardware and replacing the faucet in the kitchen, as well as how they’ve added some extra storage in their new tiny home. Similarly, in the bathroom, they also replaced the hardware and faucets and painted the cabinets and walls to give it a fresh look.
However, for a more extensive bedroom closet project, which included installing a sliding barn door, the Kochers revealed that they turned to professionals to ensure the renovation went smoothly.
“A buddy of ours completed this project for us, which is why it’s so well-made & fits the theme of the cabin perfectly,” they wrote in a video. “I considered painting the doors, but I’m not sold on that idea. We’re still getting more storage organizers to complete the project fully, but I couldn’t be more excited with how it turned out.”
While the $49,900 tiny home might be in the price realm of other compact houses you can purchase on Amazon and Walmart, the virtual tour on J&J Venture Group’s website shows that it comes with many other amenities that you’d get in a nice vacation rental.
For example, there’s a full-size tub and shower combination, a dishwasher, built-ins throughout, wiring for electricity and plumbing, and a durable, wooden build, unlike many new tiny builds that are constructed from metal materials. It also comes with all of your furniture already in place, so you don’t need to worry about finding pieces that fit your tiny space or the budget for new purchases. (Unless you want to change up the aesthetic of your new tiny home, that is).
Unfortunately, the Disney cabins are currently out of stock, but you can sign up to be a part of the waitlist by emailing them, according to the Instagram listing. In the meantime, you can keep following along on the Kocher family’s renovation adventure on Instagram to get more inspiration for a tiny rustic aesthetic, whether you’re in the market for a pint-size home or not.
