Coronation Street stars rally round Sair Khan as she details ‘raw and primal’ birth
Coronation Street star Sair Khan, who plays Alya Nazir on the ITV soap, has been supported by her co-stars after welcoming her first child, as she admitted she "had no what a ride I was in for".
The actor announced the arrival of her first child just days after leaving the show. Sair took to Instagram on Thursday, May 9 to share the joyous news that she and partner Nathan Chilton have welcomed a baby boy.
Posting some adorable snaps of the trio, she penned: "He's here! Okay, when I said 'Spring awakening' in my last post I didn't mean 'keep' me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing isn't it. More importantly our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He's super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour."
Sair confessed that her birth plan didn't go as expected, adding: "We didn't quite get the birth I'd hoped for but that's okay (two birth pools, no water birth). How can I describe the labour experience... it was raw and primal and I'm glad I kept an open heart and no expectations because my gosh I had NO IDEA what a ride I was in for.
"And since then we've been non stop trying to figure out latches and vomit and tears all while dealing with sleep deprivation and the small issue of trying to heal my own body too. Massive respect to all the new Mama's and Dadtrying to get through those first few days and weeks."
Her co-stars and peers raced to the comments to lend their support to the star, with Nicola Thorp writing: "We love you so much," while Lucy Fallon said: "Sooooooo beautiful baby boy and a gorgeous family. well done mummy xxxxx."
Sue Cleaver left some heart eye emojis, and Ellie Leach penned: "Ahhhhhh congratulations."
"Beautiful photos!! Congratulations to you Sair! You did it! Now the fun starts," added Fleur East, as Kym Marsh commented: "Huge congratulations to you both. Sending so much love to you all xxx welcome to the world little one! It’s crazy but you will love it."
Sair's character Ayla Nazir only recently left Coronation Street, quietly departing the cobbles in a taxi with only her gran Yasmeen waving her off. She's off to Dublin for a six month work placement with Fabian's law firm, even though the show has teased a possible romance with former boss Adam Barlow. Of course, that storyline could be picked up again in a few months when Sair returns to the soap.
