Here comes the bride - couple proceed with wedding despite a flooded church

It may not have been a nice day for a white wedding as Billy Idol says, but one bride from the Philippines didn’t let a flooded church keep her from marrying her fiancé.

Wading her way down a church-aisle-turned-river, Jobel Delos Angeles joined her groom-to-be in making their way to the front of the church.

Not letting Tropical Storm Yagi – and the results of its monsoon rain – dampen their spirits, the wedding went on as planned in the province of Bulacan, near Manila.

Carrying a bouquet in one hand, her dress tucked into the other, the 24-year-old can be seen smiling as she wades through the water. Her groom, in a suit and sandals, guided the bride to the altar where they exchanged their vows.

Guests watched from the water, standing barefoot.

The flooded church wasn’t the first obstacle for the young lovebirds, rather than taking a car to the church, they had to arrive by boat as no vehicles would drive them.

While the weather conditions were less than ideal, rescheduling the ceremony would only lead to further planning stress as their hometown is flood-prone at this time of year, according to the bride. The Philippines experience an average of 20 storms each year.

“Even if it floods or it rains, nothing can stop me. You only get married once, will you postpone it? I was marrying the man I love,” Delos Angeles told the AFP. “My gown got wet and heavy but I told myself it was as if I was walking on a red carpet.”

The couple also baptised their five-month-old daughter on the same day.

Originally shared to Facebook, the video has more than 209,000 views.

Despite rainwater flooding the aisle, Delos Angeles is happy to be married to her love of seven years.

It is truly memorable. I am so happy. It shows the lesson that there are no what ifs.”
