These Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards images will make you smile
The finalist photos of the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards 2024 have been released and the brilliant images guarantee an instant pick-me-up.
Depicting wildlife in a whole host of hilarious poses, this year’s highly-celebrated photography competition marks its 10th anniversary.
After whittling down a record number of 9,000 hilarious entries from 98 countries, the 2024 shortlist is made up of 40 standalone images, 4 portfolio entries and 3 video entries.
This year’s witty finalists certainly don’t disappoint, with a cheetah playing hide-and-seek, a red squirrel gymnast, a bemused chimpanzee and a hippopotamus “bride” all featuring in the line-up.
You still have time to pick your favourite for the People’s Choice Award as voting closes on October 31, with the Overall Winner, Category and Highly Commended winners announced on December 10.
Competition is fierce too as the overall winner will bag a one-week safari with Alex Walker's Serian in the Masai Mara.
The amusing photos will also go on show in a week-long exhibition from 10 -16 December, at Gallery@Oxo in London.
Each year, the competition supports a sustainable-conservation organisation, and for 2024 the Comedy Wildlife is working with the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) — a British charity that backs conservation leaders in their home countries across the Global South.
Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing, says: “These images capture not only the humour and charm of wildlife, but also highlight the importance of conservation in a way that resonates with people of all ages and from all different walks of life. At Nikon, we are immensely proud to be part of a competition that brings both joy and awareness to the wonder of our natural world.”
