Claudia Winkleman's sister Sophie talks marrying into the royal family
Claudia Winkleman's half-sister, Sophie Winkleman, has opened up about what it's like to marry into the royal family.
Actor Sophie married to Lord Freddie Windsor in 2009. He is the son of the Queen's first cousin Prince Michael of Kent. They share two daughters, Isabella, 4, and Maud, 7.
Sophie says her experience with her royal in-laws has been nothing but positive, a stark contrast to how the Windsors have been portrayed in the latest series of The Crown. Something she says she hasn't watched.
'I've been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them,' she told The Times. 'The Queen's been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William's been heaven.'
She added: 'They'd never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone's looked after me. Oh God, please don't make me sound too gushing.'
Sophie also said that she's met Meghan 'a few times over here, but not well enough to get to know her', adding: 'She certainly has very admirable energy and focus'.
Meghan and Sophie both having acting in common. She previously starred in Channel 4 comedy Peep Show, alongside David Mitchell and The Crown's Olivia Colman. Her half-sister Claudia, with whom she shares publisher father Barry Winkleman, is also in TV but they weren't close as children.
'We had very separate lives as kids: Claudia lived with her mum [Eve Pollard] and she's nine years older then me,' she said.
