Ciara Pumps Up Proportions in Oversize Balenciaga Blazer With Jutted Shoulders for Voices of Beauty Summit
Ciara was among the guests who attended the Voices of Beauty Summit on Thursday in Los Angeles. The event highlighted industry trailblazers and innovators, and featured discussions regarding the next step in inclusivity and diversity — it’s something Ciara knows well as the founder of her skin care line OAM. “I made this for women of all skin tones and skin types on a mission to be their best, to level up, to have the confidence to go after the things they deserve, to be the women they were destined to be,” she previously said when she unveiled the brand in 2022.
For the event, the singer opted for an all-black look. The centerpiece of Ciara’s outfit was her oversize, cropped blazer by Balenciaga, which featured a peak lapel. The rest of the ensemble included a black turtleneck and pointed-toe stiletto boots. As for her accessories, Ciara opted for a silver chain necklace and statement rings.

Among the statements made during Paris Fashion Week in October 2023, Balenciaga’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection featured several oversize outfits. Demna, the creative director of Balenciaga, showcased designs with mammoth tailoring, among other styles. Appointed to the creative director position in 2015 following Alexander Wang, Demna has incorporated the use of oversizd silhouettes.
Oversize tailoring is a trend that’s forecasted to remain through spring 2024. Following October’s Paris Fashion Week, a November 2023 report detailed merchants’ enthusiasm for the style. Structures featuring larger proportions and jutting shoulders were also highlighted.
More recently for Balenciaga, Demna has been musing on the difference between fashion and style. “I used this collection as a platform for creative expression, really focusing and putting the spotlight on my personal style,” the luxury fashion house’s creative director said prior to the fall 2024 rtw show.
Among the styles featured during the showcase, statement-making shoulder pads were reserved for the opening gowns inspired by the “hip-aulette” constructions made famous by founder Cristóbal Balenciaga.
“I’ve been hammering this aesthetic for almost 10 years now,” Demna said. “And it’s out of my hands. Because there are people who dress on the street who look like they might be wearing Balenciaga, but they aren’t. But the way they wear their clothes, the way they combine them, the way the proportions are, it is this Demna style.”
