If you don't already check Marks & Spencer's footwear section at least once a day for new styles to snap up, you might want to start doing so, because this season it is full of affordable gems with major designer vibes.

The latest shoes to catch our eyes for this reason (our raison-d'etre, some might say) are these patent buckle slingbacks, £39.50, which remind us of Danish brand Ganni's cult buckle ballerinas.

M&S' pair is more subtle, making them a good choice if you like the buckle flats trend but prefer smaller hardware and fewer punkish eyelets. They also only come in black, so if you're after another colour, you'll need to save up for one of Ganni's choice of 14 (yes, including leopard print).

What we love about buckle flats is how they combine the classic and the cool, bringing edge to any look. We particularly like wearing them to add oomph to feminine ruffle or slip dresses, while they also look great with slick tailoring in the office. Come autumn, they'll be perfect for elevating jeans and a cosy knit.

If you're still firmly in the summer mood despite the disappointing weather, don't miss Marks & Spencer's £49.50 fisherman sandals – think The Row's celebrity-approved pair for a fraction of the price, in either black or tan leather. See how our fashion director has been styling hers here.

Then there are the £22 sliders, which went viral earlier this season thanks to their similarity to Hermès iconic Orans. Though mostly out of stock, a few sizes remain – if yours is one of them, add to basket immediately as they're the ideal holiday buy.
