Christine Lampard dropped a bombshell on Loose Women as she hosted the show with Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor, Brenda Edwards, and special guest Sarah Ferguson. Viewers were left gobsmacked when, just minutes into the show, Christine announced some shocking news.

Corrie legend Helen Worth has decided to leave the cobbles after an incredible 50 years. Portraying Gail Platt since 1974, her departure is set to be part of a huge storyline for the Platt family, with filming scheduled for next month.

After returning from a commercial break, Christine delivered the scoop: "First some breaking news from Coronation Street. It's just been announced that after 50 years on the cobbles, Helen Worth who plays Gail, will be leaving the show later on this year."

She turned to Sally and added: "She's a proper true Corrie legend, Sally." Sally, visibly moved, responded: "She really is. Helen rang me yesterday to tell me. I didn't think this was going to break until Friday", reports the Express. Christine, with a mischievous grin, said: "We waited until you were on air. Sorry Sally,". Sally, who has been a part of the Corrie cast since 1986, expressed her heartfelt feelings about her friend and colleague's exit from the show.

She remarked: "We're going to miss her so much. She's amazing." Christine continued to praise Helen: "50 years... the absolute fabric, DNA of Corrie. You don't think of Corrie without her being in it." Sally agreed wholeheartedly: "No absolutely not," and shared, "Helen was there before I started. She was a guiding light to me. She's a wonderful actress and I love her."

Adding some humour to the chat, the Duchess of York cheekily hinted at potentially filling Helen's shoes on the soap, sending the audience into fits of giggles. Social media was flooded with messages about Helen's exit.

While a third speculated: "If Helen Worth's leaving then they're definitely going to kill her off - after 50 years she's not going to leave only to come back #loosewomen."

Sharing the news of her exit Corrie exit in a statement, Helen said: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.

"I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew."
