A pair of bizarre 'Teletubbies boots' costing more than £2,000 have left fashion fans divided.

The unusual footwear, which come bright green and feature the character 'Dipsy', were created by Christian Cowan.

In a post on Instagram, the New York-based designer shared a picture of the unique heels, which will set you back £2,096, with the caption: "No caption necessary."

The post has received more than 27,000 'likes', as well as a stream of passionate comments about their style credentials.

These included comments from celebrities from Paris Hilton, who shared "need!", to Michelle Visage who wrote: "facts".

However, not everyone was sold, with one person sharing: "I'm calling the police."

Despite some negative feedback, seems that the boots were popular, with Cowan separately announcing that they were back online.

Shoppers will have to wait a little while to get their hands on a pair however, with the site stating that they would be shipped between 15 April and 31 May.

Cowan recently revealed in another Instagram post that he had collaborated especially with the hit 1990s children's show on a number of items.

Captioning an image from the campaign, he explained: "The collab you didn't know you needed... Teletubbies x Christian Cowan has dropped. Link in Bio to be gagged.

"When deciding what our next collaboration would be, we were throwing around lots of pop culture icons, and then it struck us, let's do THE icons.

"We treated Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po, and Tinky-Winky like the legends they are, shot in an Avdeon-esque style, the garments tell the story of our four legendary characters, who have come to step on everyone's necks and have autographed these pieces for their adoring fans."
