Teigen confirmed that her son Miles has Type 1 Diabetes in post on Instagram on July 31.
The mom of four, whom shares her kids with husband John Legend, shared the news after fans noticed Miles wearing a diabetes monitor in a previous photo she’d posted of the pair and her daughter Luna at the 2024 Olympics in Paris on July 28.
"A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and team USA," Teigen wrote. "Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform.”
Teigen added that she was “blown away” after fans “extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible.” She explained that Miles “was sick, in the hospital, with a terrible case of [the intestinal infection] shigella ...But the doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests,” as she revealed her little boy's diagnosis.
Teigen added that it was a “different, new world for us” and that she and Legend, 45, had been reading the book Year One with Type One to help Miles with his condition.
Teigen has since shared more photos of Miles wearing his glucose monitor on Instagram, including a sweet snap showing the pair embracing on Sept 10.
That same month, Legend spoke to PEOPLE about his and his wife’s initial shock at their son being diagnosed with the condition.
"Chrissy was upset a little bit when she first heard it," he said, "She's been so good at learning what she needs to do."
“My personality is one where I'm very optimistic and I'm very practical. As soon as I learned that he had this I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us,” he continued. "This speaks to us feeling like a team … and knowing we can do this together. It just makes us stronger."
