The cape coat trend is here to make you feel like a style superhero
The classic cape coat has firmly secured its place in our new-season wardrobe, partly thanks to style queen Claudia Winkleman who reminded us of all the fabulous ways to style a cape on The Traitors.
The cape coat resurgence hasn't just hit our TV screens, either. Since Saint Laurent's AW23 runway show, it's been steadily trending with a twist. Case in point: the edgy black leather capes layered over flowing dresses that dominated Chloé’s AW24 runway, or the cropped sporty styles spotted at Burberry. The classic cape-detail trench also remains a firm favourite, like those from Alexa Chung's favourite outerwear brand, Auralee.
The definition of a wardrobe staple, a cape coat is the piece to turn to when you want to add a little flair. But, we reckon a cape could also become your new throw-on-and-go everyday hero as we head into the new season. It's the ultimate layering piece that will add a polished finish to any look, whether you pair it with a chunky knit à la Claudia or a flowy boho-inspired dress straight off the Chloé runway.

The must-have coat for the transitional season, if you're yet to invest in a cape coat, now is the time before the best styles sell out ahead of spring. High-street brands and designers alike have a plenty of styles to browse, from cosy wool-rich cape coats for chillier days to cape-inspired trench coats you'll wear on repeat year after year.
