Cannes: Detailfilm, Zentropa Denmark Forge Alliance

German shingle Detailfilm has teamed up with leading Scandi producer Zentropa Denmark to form Zentropa Hamburg, a 50-50 joint venture.

The first collaboration between Detailfilm and Zentropa Hamburg is Hans Petter Moland’s “Conspiracy of Faith,” the previously-announced adaptation of Jussi Adler Olsen’s bestseller. Zentropa Norway is also co-producing.

Repped by TrustNordisk, the sales arm of Zentropa, “Conspiracy of Faith” was picked up by Wild Bunch for France and Vertigo for Spain.

The film, which is the third film of a trilogy also comprising “The Keeper of Lost Causes” and “The Absent One,” will be shooting through the end of June.

“It is a great honor to work with one of the greatest companies in the world on new and challenging projects,” said Detailfilm founder Fabian Gasmia.

Detailfilm is also on board to produce Turkish director Kutlug Ataman’s “Hilal, Feza and Other Planets,” the helmer’s follow up to “Kuzu – The Lamb” which premiered in Berlin’s Panorama section in 2014.

“Hilal” is currently being presented at Cannes Film Festival’s Atelier, a mini-market hosted by the Cinefondation program.

The project earned an award from Franco-German net Arte at Sarajevo Cinelink and has recently been selected by the German-Turkish development fund to receive coin. “Hilal” has also secured private equity investments.

Gamsia described “Hilal” as a very universal story of an unlikely friendship between a conservative muslim girl and a transvestite, set in Istanbul during the last military coup in the ’90s.

Lensing is planned for summer 2016.

Also on Detailfilm’s co-production slate is the next film from Mia Hansen Love (“Eden”), “L’avenir,” a drama that will star Isabelle Huppert as a 57-year old philosophy professor facing a new life.

“L’avenir” is produced by Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinema.
