Candace Bushnell, the author of the Sex and the City books which inspired the hit TV series of the same name, has answered the question of whether she is Team Big or Team Aidan.
Big (Chris Noth) and Aidan (John Corbett) are the names of the two main love interests for the protagonist of the series, Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker), and fans have long debated which man is better suited for the character.
However, Bushnell threw in a curveball with her answer, when she tweeted: “When people ask me if I’m Team Big or Team Aidan, I loudly proclaim my love for Harry Goldenblatt.”
The character Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) is the husband of Carrie's friend Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and is a fan favourite for his sweet nature and for how much he loves Charlotte.
Fans of the series were quick to react to Bushnell’s tweet, with one person writing: “I knew it!”
Others argued that Steve Brady (David Eigenberg), the husband of another of Carrie’s friends Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) is the better pick of the men.
Samantha Jones’(Kim Cattrall) love interest Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis) was also favoured by some fans, with one person writing: “Smith Supremacy.”
The Big versus Aidan debate continues to be a hot topic almost 20 years after the end of the original series, but was fired up again in 2021 after the first season of And Just Like That dropped, which followed Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda as they navigated their 50s.
While, in the original series, Carrie ended up with Mr Big, many fans preferred Aidan as a character but realised that he and Carrie were not a good fit.
“Carrie didn't deserve Aidan,” one person said in response to Bushnell’s tweet. And while Aidan didn’t appear in the first season of And Just Like That, Parker recently confirmed that he will be in season two, so watch this space.
