The Duchess of Cornwall was praised for her outfit choices over the course of the Platinum Jubilee weekend – but not many noticed she wore a robe belonging to her husband.

At the Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday Camilla was first pictured enjoying the show in the audience with other members of the Royal Family, sporting a stylish black zip-up jacket.

But when she took to the stage with Prince Charles, she removed the jacket to reveal something very different, a navy long robe with silver embroidery.

The traditional piece, known as a 'daqlah', was gifted to Charles by Saudi fashion designer Yahya Al-Bishri during one of the royal's visits to Saudi Arabia.

Camilla, 74, wore the wool and cashmere robe as she stood with her husband on stage, who delivered a speech to the Queen, as a tribute to his 'mummy'.

It seems the designer had no idea that Camilla was going to wear his design for the jubilee, and was extremely "proud and happy" when he found out.

“It is just a great feeling to see the whole world is talking about my outfit,” Al-Bishri told Arab News from his home in Jeddah, a city in Saudi Arabia.

“Actually, I was engaged with friends in a small gathering when my wife called me and told me, 'Are you watching the Platinum Party (at the Palace)?’ She told me that Camilla was wearing my daqlah.

“As a Saudi fashion designer, I am so proud and happy that international media focused on my design, talked about the outfit and appreciated what the Duchess of Cornwall was wearing.”

The daqlah, which is traditionally worn over a 'throbe', was given to Charles during his visit to the Kingdom in 1998, according to Al-Bishri.

When asked whether the piece can be worn by men and women, Al-Bishri said, "A daqlah can be worn open or closed by men. Camilla wore it buttoned up, keeping the focus on the beautiful embroidery on the fabric. She really looked beautiful in it.”

But it is not the first time Camilla has worn the robe, with her also seen in it at previous events, including reportedly an altered version of the piece to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force at RAF Cranwell in Sleaford in 2008, and at the Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo in 2010.

Of course, at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, being spotted from the other side of the world, is slightly more bigger scale.

On the first day of the jubilee celebrations, Camilla joined the Duchess of Cambridge and her three children in the traditional carriage ride for the Trooping the Colour ceremony.

Co-ordinated, Kate wore white with a blue-white hat, Camilla wore blue, and the three Cambridge children wore different shades of blue, Prince George, eight, in a navy suit and pale blue tie, Princess Charlotte, seven, in a pale blue dress, and Prince Louis, four, in a white sailor-style outfit.

For Sunday's Big Jubilee lunch, of which Camilla is a patron for, she wore a statement emerald green dress, as she and Charles attended the Oval cricket ground for cake and tea.

For the Platinum Pageant, she opted for a long white jacket with black embodied detail, over what appeared to be a white dress.
