Call the Midwife star talks Nancy's turning point
Call the Midwife's Megan Cusack has teased a potential turning point for her character Nancy Corrigan.
Cusack joined the show during season 10 as Nancy who – since acquiring the title of a midwife – has found herself in the hot seat on occasions due to her standoffish personality and outlook on life.
However, speaking to RadioTimes, Cusack said that viewers should be expecting an attitude change for the character after recent developments.
"There's an episode with Bernard and I think that was a real turning point for Nancy," she said.
"Because she does put her foot in it, her bedside manner is not great. So I think she's really sad to see a different side to the world. She's thrown herself into her work more, she's becoming more compassionate. She's growing."
The episode in question saw Nancy being sent off to the district roster where she met and befriended Bernard, a drug addict who later on found a tragic end from gangrene after refusing treatment.
At the end of the episode, Nancy is seemingly devastated by the loss, telling Sister Frances that she was "the only person who's crying for him in the whole world".
The powerful and emotional storyline had also been recognised by fans, many of whom later took to Twitter to praise the show.
Cusack went on to joke that she'd love to see a spinoff with Nancy and Sister Frances, played by Ella Bruccoleri, having already found the perfect opening credits scene for it.
"We're just waiting for our spinoff show, 'Sister Frances and Nancy Take Europe'," she said. "We're going to be in a soft top and the wimple is going to flow up and that's going to be the opening credits."
Call the Midwife airs on Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
