Call the Midwife has confirmed a new cast member for its upcoming Christmas special.

The BBC series has shared a new behind-the-scenes still on Instagram of some of the show's child stars, confirming that Myla Park has joined the ensemble.

Appearing alongside April Rae Hoang (May), Alice Brown (Angela) and Edward Shaw (Ned), Call the Midwife said that the episode will feature "a lovely performance" by the new star.

The series added in the caption that the four children "became great playmates during filming - especially on those long days involving a large cast, as seen here".

"This new gang of tiny stars wanted to immortalise their day in typical film fashion with a clapperboard shot - and our camera team were ready with an appropriately tiny clapperboard!! The next time you see [Myla], it'll be in a more more dramatic context... but until then, our lips are sealed."

An Instagram post was shared on Park's own page, as the young star shared her excitement at joining the series.

"So over the moon to finally be able to announce that I have been cast in BBC1 Call The Midwife Series 14 Christmas Day special.. filming this was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I loved every second of making my television acting debut," the caption reads.

Park has previously toured the UK and Ireland with Annie the Musical.

As well as the Christmas special, work is underway on Call the Midwife season 14, which was recently teased with a cast photo.

Sharing a shot of the cast at a dining table, the show's official account teased: "In an ensemble drama like ours, every character has something to say - even if they're not speaking.

"In the episode featured in this photograph, there is MUCH for our Nonnatuns to talk about .... Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas Special, and series 14 in 2025."

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
