Burberry emerges as strong contender for Meghan Markle's wedding dress designer

There’s another label in the running for the most coveted job of 2018. Joining the ranks of Erdem and Ralph and Russo, Burberry is the latest name tipped to be behind Meghan Markle’s wedding dress.

In an interview with podcast, Wedding Guest Extraordinaire, designer Henry Holland voiced his predictions ahead of the big day.

“I personally really hope it’s somebody British,” the 34-year-old admitted. “I would be quite excited if it was Christopher Bailey’s final bow for Burberry. I think that would be a nice thing for him to do, she’s worn for them for a long time.”

He continued: “Christopher’s a lovely, lovely guy. I think a Burberry wedding dress would be pretty spot on.”

The creative director recently stepped down from the Brit label after 17 years at the helm and his February 2018 collection marked the end of an era. But as Holland points out, what better way to give a ‘final bow’ than by taking on his most history-making project to date?

The designer is rumoured to be staying at the fashion house until the end of the year, when Riccardo Tisci, former head designer over at Givenchy, will succeed his role.

And if Holland’s prediction turns out to be correct, it would not be entirely surprising.

Markle has looked to the fashion house on numerous public engagements. Most notably, the 36-year-old donned a £1,995 tartan check coat by the label for her debut trip to Edinburgh.

The former actress has also hit up the brand for several red carpet appearances throughout her Hollywood career.

But in more debatable news, Holland added that he doesn’t believe front-runner Erdem Moralıoğlu is the man behind the job (despite her future sister-in-law commitment to the label).

Holland also added that Giles Deacon, who designed Pippa Middleton’s wedding dress, confirmed to him that he is not behind Markle’s dress. That’s another name ticked off from the list.

But no matter how much we speculate, there’s one person who doesn’t wish to know ahead of the big day.

According to sources, Prince Harry is “very traditional and wants it to be a complete surprise on the day.”
