A bride's mother purchased a wedding dress for her without consulting her beforehand.

It's common for a bride to bring her mother with her when she goes wedding dress shopping. But that's not what happened for one bride, who explained in a post on Reddit's "Wedding" forum that her mother went behind her back and bought her a dress that she has never tried on or even seen before.

"Got a text this morning from my mum saying she'd found 'the perfect dress' for me on eBay and won the bid," she wrote. "It's ex-sample so apparently a bargain, but it was still very expensive. Far more than I would've spent myself."

The poster added that she hasn't ever visited a bridal shop or had a single conversation with her mother about wedding dresses.

"We haven't gone dress shopping. We haven't ever discussed the styles I like or what I have in mind," she continued.

While this might sound like a nightmare for some brides, it was a dream come true for this one.

"But luckily I LOVE IT! And it's so heartwarming that she knows me so well!" she wrote.

She added: "Now just hoping it looks as nice on me as it does in the pictures... (and, bless her, she's promised to still take me dress shopping if I don't like it on me)."

The majority of Reddit users in the comments section said they were initially worried when they read the beginning of the post, but were happy to find out that the story has a sweet ending.

"Had me in the first half lol," one person commented in part, with another adding, "It’s so sweet how her mom knows her so well. What a special connection and story!"

A few commenters were fearful that this might be an indication of the mother of the bride trying to control her daughter's wedding.

"It’s pretty invasive and you should draw a line here IMO (in my opinion) — I do not find it wholesome nor nice. It’s just super controlling and not okay."
