One bride's parents invited 30 extra guests to her wedding but they don't want to pay the additional cost.

In a post on Reddit's popular "Am I the A------?" forum, a bride is asking users to weigh in on whether or not she is in the wrong for refusing to pick up the cost for her parents' extra wedding guests.

The bride explained in her post that she and her fiancé budgeted for 200 people. She told her parents that they may invite 20 guests each, with the caveat that they must cover the costs of any additional guests that go over that limit.

Even though the bride's parents understood the terms, her mother invited 50 guests anyway — which is 30 people above the allowed number — and refuses to pay for them.

The bride explained that she's already exceeded her wedding budget and cannot afford to pay for the additional guests. It's roughly $150 per head, so the extra 30 guests would cost $4,500.

"The vendor payments are now due and she is refusing to cover her costs," the bride wrote of her mother. "She is playing the victim and has said the following things: (1) She can’t afford to pay as agreed; (2) She will ask each of her 30 extra guests to cover their own costs; (3) She does not think she will enjoy the wedding so I should remove her AND her guests from the guest list; (4) She is seeking a loan from the bank to pay for those costs; and (5) I have killed all her excitement and spirit."

With her upset mother making so many different claims, from saying she won't attend the wedding to claiming she'll have to take out a loan, the bride is "really at a loss" on what to do.

"Our budget has already gone way over and I can’t stretch myself to cover these unexpected costs," she wrote.

Reddit users in the comments section came to the defense of the bride, pointing out that her mother knowingly invited more guests than she could afford and shouldn't expect the couple getting married to shell out thousands of dollars for them.

"NTA (Not the A------), you told her clearly what the limits were. She knowingly exceeded them," one person wrote in part. "You're on a budget, they either need to cover their costs, she does, or they're just not invited. That simple."

Many commenters were also confused why the bride's parents were allowed to invite so many people in the first place.

"I've never understood the desire to invite people you might not have talked to in years or ever," someone wrote, with another person adding, "Honestly letting your PARENTS invite even 20 people is absurd to me. Who are these people, do you know them? If you did, why are your parents inviting them and not you?"
