To breastfeed in public or not? To cover up when you breastfeed in public or not? To brelfie when you breastfeed in public or not? When it comes to breastfeeding your baby when you’re out and about, there are countless debates. And finding a comfy spot where you’re not only welcome to breastfeed openly, but actually encouraged to do so is pretty rare. Which is why a bookshop in Coventry is winning over the Internet for its sign inviting women to breastfeed ‘ostentatiously’ in the store.

The Big Comfy Bookshop put up the hand written sign in their window letting women know they are welcome to breastfeed inside, but only if they do so ‘ostentatiously.’

Shop owner Michael McEntee, told The Huffington Post UK that the sign was put up in response to Nigel Farage’s controversial comments about breastfeeding.

In 2014 the former UKIP leader had quite a bit to say about women nursing in public: “This is just a matter of common sense, isn’t it?” he said. “I think that, given that some people feel very embarrassed by it, it isn’t too difficult to breastfeed a baby in a way that’s not openly ostentatious.”

Micheal McEntee was inspired to put up the sign as a tongue-in-cheek response to Farage’s negative statement. “It was in reply to the ridiculous comments Farage made about breastfeeding and how a woman was breastfeeding ostentatiously in a restaurant once,” he said. “It’s so ludicrous I thought a quick doodle was in order.”

Since the sign was put on display people have been sharing images of it to social media with a largely positive reaction.

“Major #Kudos to The Big Comfy Bookshop in Coventry for this amazing breastfeeding sign!” one tweet reads.

A few people, however, wanted to point out that if you choose to cover-up when you breastfeed in public then that should be fine too.

“This sign says to me that if you’re going to breastfeed you SHOULD do it uncovered and "out there” and some people prefer to be a bit discreet,” explained one commentator.

Whatever you think about the sign, there’s no doubt the bookshop looks like the best place to curl up with a good book a cuppa and a slice of cake. If only we were a bit closer to Coventry. *sighs*
