Bonnie Tyler calls Gavin & Stacey's Ruth Jones a 'little sod' in live BBC Breakfast Show call
Welsh legend Bonnie Tyler called Gavin & Stacey star and writer Ruth Jones a “little sod” during a hilarious impromptu chat live on national radio. Jones appeared on Greg James' Radio 1 Breakfast Show on Friday morning to discuss the eagerly-awaited Gavin & Stacey finale which airs on Christmas Day.
She was sat alongside co-star and co-writer James Corden and both took part in a regular game called ‘Sit Down, Stand Up’, where guests cold call celebrity friends simply to ask them if they are sitting down or standing up. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
Given Jones’ standing in Wales, she of course had Bonnie Tyler’s number on her phone, and did not hesitate for a second when it came to giving the singing star a quick ring despite being live on the radio. Host James said: “Ruth, let’s call one person from your phone”, to which she replied “shall I do Bonnie Tyler?”, leading to an outburst of laughter from Corden.

A surprised James then said: “Call Bonnie Tyler? What are you talking about? Really?”. Jones then revealed that Tyler was a “big Gavin & Stacey fan” but had a quick doubt about calling her live on air because “she does swear”.
Jones guessed that Tyler would be sitting down, while Corden predicted that she would be standing up. Tyler then answered the phone and Jones, in a classic Nessa voice, said: “Oh, Bonnie, what’s occurrin’?” Tyler can then be heard down the line saying: “You little sod, you told me it wasn’t going to happen (referring to a Gavin & Stacey comeback), and it is.”
The Skewen-born singer then said about the new special: “I’m so excited, I can’t wait! The whole country is waiting darling, to see it. Congratulations both.” Jones then wishes Tyler a merry Christmas before Tyler responds in kind. A shell-shocked Greg James shouts: “Merry Christmas Bonnie Tyler!” before simply saying: “Oh my god. I have no further questions. We’re done here. This could not have gone any better.”
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale will air on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
