Bobbi Brown, the make-up artist famed for bringing the natural look to the masses, will be leaving her eponymous brand at the end of 2016.

This year marked the company’s 25th anniversary, sparking a realisation in Bobbi who stated “it was time to start a new chapter and move on to new ventures.”

“I am thankful for the extraordinary people that I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years and proud of the creative endeavours and innovative products we’ve created together,” she continued in a statement issued last night.

Starting a global business was an accident, Bobbi revealed at the 2015 Vogue Festival. It all began when she set out to create the ultimate nude lipstick that would flatter any skin colour. After creating a line of ten lip products, she caught the attention of major beauty players.

In 1995, the beauty brand was bought by Estée Lauder and went on to become one of the most well-known names in the industry. Bobbi has been at the helm since day one, introducing new cosmetics that are now sold in 70 countries and remaining committed to her natural ideal.

“More than two decades ago, we met an extremely creative makeup artist with a revolutionary idea that changed the way women feel about beauty,” commented William P. Lauder, executive chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies. “Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is an incredible testament to Bobbi Brown the woman.”

It’s a tricky task to leave a company named after yourself. Bobbi is following in the footsteps of fashion designers Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and John Galliano; figures who no longer have creative control of their namesake brands.

It’s unclear what Bobbi’s next move will be but the name Bobbi Brown is no longer available for use.
