Bad Boys for Life

The third in the Bad Boys franchise was definitely worth the wait. Bad Boys for Life had a super dark twist that even we didn't see coming. In it, our favourite old-school, wisecracking cops must soon learn to get along with their new elite counterparts if they are to take down the vicious cartel that threatens their lives.

Another one of Quentin Tarantino's revisionist histories, Inglorious Basterds is this writer's favourite. A few Jewish soldiers are on an undercover mission to bring down the Nazi government and put an end to the war. Meanwhile, a woman wants to avenge the death of her family from a German officer. It's cathartic as hell.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

An absolute banger of a classic, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is based on the true story of fast draws and wild rides, battles with posses, train and bank robberies, a torrid love affair and a new lease on outlaw life in far away Bolivia. It is also a character study of a remarkable friendship between Butch – possibly the most likeable outlaw in frontier history – and his closest associate, the fabled, ever-dangerous Sundance Kid.

The Warriors

The story centres on a New York City gang who must make an urban journey of 30 miles (48 km), from the north end of The Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader. It wasn't a blockbuster – in fact, after reports of violence and vandalism, Paramount suspending advertising and released cinemas from any obligation to show the film. But since then it's become a cult classic, resulting in spinoffs, video games and a comic book series.
