Go for a free festive walk

Walking charity The Ramblers are putting on free festive walks around the country, between December 21 and January 6. The winter-themed rambles range from gentle strolls under five miles to longer hikes for those after a challenge. They include The Great Christmas Day Walk on the Isle of Wight, a 12-mile route that takes in some of the Island’s most spectacular coastal scenery. [Photo: Flickr/Anguskirk]

Christmas Day is all about staying indoors – eating your fill of turkey with all the trimmings, unwrapping presents and watching a festive film or two with a glass of mulled wine in hand.

But come Boxing Day, and in the run-up to New Year’s Eve, it’s time to work off some of those extra calories, dust off the yuletide cobwebs and embrace the great outdoors.

And the good news is that this can be completely free.

So, whether you’re looking for fireworks, a workout or even Santa’s reindeer – we have the time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve all wrapped up.
