Following a tumultuous four years in office (see: two impeachments, a ban from social media and becoming the inspiration for a thousand memes), Donald Trump has finally left the building. The transition of power, which now makes Joe Biden the official President of the United States, has of course prompted many to express their joy, sorrow and everything else in between online.

After Chrissy Teigen inadvertently shared spoilers about the upcoming inauguration ceremony for Biden at the White House, she also took a minute to write a lengthy paragraph about her views on Trump and his presidency – and she was far from the only one with strong opinions.

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson also took the time to throw some shade, as did actor and TV host James Corden (who chose to do so through the medium of song). Others, like Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga, chose to share their hopes for a more peaceful and united future.

Here, we've rounded up all the best – and often funniest – responses to Trump's exit.

Nigella Lawson:

Keeping it subtle, Queen Nigella merely tweeted a recipe for a bitter orange tart. Who said it was even related to Trump in the first place? YOU CAN'T PROVE IT. "Well, yes, Bitter Orange Tart just happens to be #RecipeOfTheDay," she wrote. "Apart from anything else, there are more things to make with Seville oranges than marmalade! This is not complicated: the base is bashed ginger nuts."

Jonathan Van Ness:

After posting a video of his TV showing Trump's send off (which saw the President end his speech with the words "Have a good life!" and then walk off stage to YMCA by the Village People) with some hilare commentary (and some v bleep-worthy strong language) over the top, the Queer Eye icon tweeted: "That was some weird ass shit." Which tbh, could be applied to the entire last four years too.

Chrissy Teigen:

Alongside her live updates of what's going down in Washington D.C. today, Chrissy shared a photograph of herself in front of the White House on Instagram along with a few choice words. "Today our great national fuckup is over, but the shame will last forever," she started. "With 2 impeachments, the creation of 3 million LESS jobs, 403,000 dead, a record low approval rating and god knows how many crimes... we can officially say Donald J Trump is the greatest at being the fucking worst. History will not be kind to you... But I never was anyhow."

Chrissy, and her husband singer John Legend, also stopped to pose with some servicemen and women who are part of Biden's inauguration ceremony, on their way to a sound check last night.

James Corden:

Parodying the musical Les Misérables, James shared a serenade titled 'One More Day' on the change in President. Lyrics include "Final day of Trump as president, the White House has a brand new resident... it's been four years of endless crime, but now he's finally out of time" and "Biden better change the sheets, will you change the locks with me?".

Lady Gaga:

In true Gaga form, the singer who is performing at Biden's inauguration ceremony (along with Jennifer Lopez and John Legend), shared a message of hope, saying she's praying for a better future for Americans. "I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans. A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol 🇺🇸 ."

Jameela Jamil:

The actress and self-love activist kept it short and snappy by tweeting a GIF of Trump waving "bye bye", along with the words "Happy Inauguration Day America. Wishing everyone love, safety and peace ❤️ ."

Michelle Obama:

Alongside a photo of herself and her husband, former president Barack Obama, with their daughters, Sasha and Malia, Michelle expressed her relief at the end of Trump's reign. "Today is the day," she began. "After a disturbing era of chaos and division, we are entering the next chapter of American leadership with the inauguration of @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris. Right now, I’m feeling more than just relief at putting the past four years behind us. I’m feeling genuinely hopeful for what’s to come."

Jennifer Lopez:

Likely busy getting ready to perform (!), JLo has posted a series of pictures of herself – and service people on the ground – at Washington D.C. We can't wait to see what her, Gaga and John Legend have in store for the inauguration ceremony!

Mindy Kaling:

The actress gave a shout out to Vice President Kamala Harris's husband, Doug Emenhoff, the new Second Gentleman, and shared an essay he'd penned for GQ. "Loved this thoughtful essay by @SecondGentleman about his new role and his love of country. Can’t wait to see him in action soon!"

Katy Perry:

As well as posting her emotional performance on Firework (anyone else get goosebumps?), the singer (who recently gave birth to her first child, Daisy Dove, with Orlando Bloom) tweeted "#UNITY = you and I ❤️🇺🇸".

Mariah Carey:

As Trump and Melania left the White House, Mariah tweeted a succinct "GTFO" (Get The F*ck Out) GIF. Later, she shared a biblical quote on change: "'Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning' Psalms 30:5. Tears of joy and prayers for our nation and the entire world #BidenHarrisInauguration".

John Legend:

As well as tweeting "It's a new day" in reference to both the welcoming in of President Biden and the Nina Simone song he chose to sing, John also quote tweeted a post from Biden's Inaugural Committee and said it had been an honour to perform. "Thank you for asking me to perform," he wrote. "It was so special for me to celebrate with the nation in front of the memorial to one of our greatest presidents. AND I loved honouring the late great Nina Simone, my constant source of musical inspiration."

Cher:

Ever vocal about her dislike of Trump, the legendary singer shared with her 3.8 million followers that she felt as though she could breathe easy for the first time in, well, four years.

Kris Jenner:

Writing on Instagram, Kris shared a few thoughts (which her daughter Khloé later added to her own Stories): "Congratulations @joebiden @kamalaharris!! What an emotional, historical, incredible and hopeful day this is in history!! Thank you for bringing so much hope and promise to our nation. 'Together, we shall write an American story of hope, not fear. Of unity, not division. Of light, not darkness. A story of decency and dignity, love and healing, greatness and goodness.' - President @JoeBiden #Inauguration2021."

Ariana Grande:

Posting up a selection of images from the day, including one of Bernie Sanders and his now infamous (and meme-worthy) wearing-mittens-on-a-chair photo, Ariana said, "Oh happy day".
