Bella Hadid and the supermodel set prove the scrunchie is back
A hair trend that once sat atop the heads of Rachel Green, Cher Horowtiz and even Hillary Clinton, the scrunchie represented everything that we loved (or loathed) about nineties fashion.
And now, the marmite of the industry has cemented its status in the style stakes thanks to the Insta-pack. Yes, the likes of Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin and Selena Gomez have reimagined the scrunchie this season.
Only recently, one half of the Hadid sisters was photographed leaving an airport decked in a nineties-inspired tracksuit, multiple layers of gold jewellery and half-moon sunnies. And with a penchant for all things nineties, it’s the accessory the super’s athletic wardrobe was crying out for.
Close friend Hailey Baldwin demonstrated how to pay tribute to the must-have on the red carpet. Dressed in a double-breasted blazer dress that wouldn’t look out of place on a polaroid, there was only one way the model could finish the look. With a co-ordinating scrunchie, of course.
But it was only a matter of time until the street style set would get on board, as the accessory took centre stage on the SS18 runway. And by no means is this a ‘Clueless’ tribute, as the likes of Mansur Gavriel adopted a rather elegant approach to the scrunchie.
