Supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid make a case for the thong bikini trend on holiday
It’s not a swimwear trend that everyone’s brave enough to work, but supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid are all about thong bikinis this summer.
The duo, currently on holiday in Mykonos together, have been sharing images of their extensive swimwear wardrobe on Instagram; a collection that’s largely made up of the minuscule bikini bottom trend that’s been rumbling on for the past few years.
Popularised by A-listers, ‘Love Island’ contestants and fast fashion brands alike, the trend for thong bikinis have gone strength to strength in recent years. Google shows searches are up more than threefold since 2015.
So, is the trend here to stay? We asked personal styling guru Keren Beamount for her take.
She told Yahoo UK: “The thong bikini trend is not for the faint hearted! It requires perfectly tones glutes in order to be flattering.
“Fortunately this is likely a passing micro-trend and part of the wider 80's revival.
“Made popular by reality TV shows (blame Love Island) and millennial models, the danger of the thong trend is that it may feed the misconception that one needs to have a perfect body in order to gain happiness.
“Let's hope its lifespan is as miniscule as its fabric consumption!”
