BBC Morning Live's Helen Skelton hushes co-star as she lets slip Blue Peter secret

Helen Skelton left her co-stars stunned as she opened up about her former presenting role on BBC's Blue Peter - which was effectively her biggest hosting job at the time.

The much-loved TV star landed herself the hosting stint on the Children's staple back in 2008, at the age of 25. She took over from Zoe Salmon becoming the 33rd permanent host on the iconic TV show.

At the time, Helen couldn't believe she'd landed her dream job, announcing: "I am absolutely thrilled to have been chosen. It's a dream come true to get the best job in telly and to join the series in its 50th anniversary year is a massive honour."

Fans of Blue Peter will know that the programme involved a lot of creativity, as children were shown how to make things out of unwanted household waste items - such as used Fairy liquid bottles.

But if viewers believed that the hosts of the show themselves were crafty, then they would have been fooled explained a bashful Helen on Monday's (December 9th) episode of Morning Live.

On the chat show, Helen had been joined by her usual co-star Michelle Ackerley with the pair stunning audiences wearing festive-fun sequined pencil skirts and warm baggy jumpers for the occasion.

They were joined on the programme by BBC Radio 2 star OJ Borg, who was chatting to them about all things Christmas TV. He was introducing Stacey Solomon's new Christmas Craft programme when the spotlight turned to Helen and her past role.

Michelle kicked off the conversation saying: "Stacey Solomon, she's back with some crafting at Christmas," as OJ asked the hosting duo: "Yeah, are you good at crafting?"

Looking dubious, Helen and Michelle glanced at one another for a moment and shared a smile. Michelle confessed: "We used to live together and we're really terrible at doing crafts," as Helen added: "It wasn't a homemade Stacey Solomon type crafts."

OJ was dumbfounded over their admission, chirping back at Helen: "Wait a minute, hang on you were on Blue Peter, don't you have to be crafty?" Remaining coy, she shut him down with a whispered response: "Yeah, people thought that."

"No! Wait! What?, I'm calling the papers," joked a stunned OJ as Michelle burst into fits of giggles.

Helen was a fan-favourite on Blue Peter for five years before she decided to pursue other projects. In 2013, she announced: "I have been so lucky over the last five years. I have travelled the world, met amazing people, been part of some unbelievable adventures and I have loved every second of it."

Morning Live airs weekdays on BBC One.
