Asda axes popular money-saving scheme as it prepares to launch new incentive
Asda has confirmed that it has ended its Aldi and Lidl Price Match campaign just one year after it went available in all stores.
The 'Big Four' grocer became the first supermarket to take on its budget rivals by launching the scheme in January 2024. It reduced prices across a variety of staples by an average of 17 percent.
However, the popular money-saving deal has now been phased out, according to Asda. The supermarket also confirmed that no prices have been increased due to the decision to discontinue the scheme.

It comes as Asda is gearing up to launch its 'Rollback' incentive across all stores. The retailer explained that it has decided to start 20245 by focussing on "on our own great Asda Prices not competitor comparisons."
An Asda spokesperson told the Daily Record: "We're focussed on our own great Asda Prices not competitor comparisons. We’ve started 2025 as we mean to go on by cutting prices on thousands of products and there’s much more to come with Rollback."
While the supermarket is yet to release any information regarding its new incentive, the Grocery Gazette has said that it will be its "largest Rollback campaign in years". It has also been reported that it is set to launch sometime next week.
Since Asda became the first supermarket to price match the German rivals last year, many other retailers followed suit with their own schemes. This includes Sainsbury's and Tesco, with both supermarkets matching prices you would find in Aldi.
Both incentives are available to shop online and in stores, with prices matched across more than 500 products at each retailer. The prices are usually advertised with the "Aldi price Match" bubble that is easy for shoppers to spot when shopping.
The news comes just after Asda dropped prices across over 2,500 products in its 'Big January Price Drop' initiative. Available throughout January, the scheme reduced a variety of products shoppers buy week in, week out by an average of 26 percent.
This included everything from groceries to household cleaning staples. Available online and in store, it covered a range of Asda's own-branded products alongside family favourites such as Dolmio, Birds Eye and Old El Paso.
