‘Argylle’ Trailer: Henry Cavill, John Cena and Dua Lipa Become International Spies in Matthew Vaughn’s Latest Action Film

Although Henry Cavill has hung up his Superman cape, the star is set to save the world once more, this time as an international spy in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy thriller, “Argylle.”

Apple Original Films released the first trailer for the movie, teasing Cavill’s super-spy, Argylle, who travels around the globe conducting top-secret missions. The film, out Feb. 2, 2024, was previously said to be based on a forthcoming novel from first-time author Elly Conway — but with the trailer and movie’s official synopsis, it’s been revealed that Conway is also a character in the film. Whether or not she is a real person has yet to be confirmed.

More from Variety

“Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie,” the plot description reads. “But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.”

Cavill and Howard are joined by a star-studded cast, including Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L. Jackson.

Vaughn, the “Kingsman” franchise director, also serves as a producer on the film, alongside Adam Bohling, David Reid and screenwriter Jason Fuchs, as well as executive producers Zygi Camasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn and Adam Fishbach.

“Argylle” will be distributed by Universal Pictures and will stream on Apple TV+ at a later date.
