Anna Sui Is Going on Nostalgic Beach Vacation for Spring 2025

Opting out of the madness of mounting a runway show this season, Anna Sui debuted her nostalgic beach themed spring collection with a look book, but all is not lost — she’s hosting an event in November to launch five fragrances. “I’m going to do an old school kind of brunch and then have informal modeling,” she said. For now, though, she is dreaming of vacation. “I escaped in my collection,” she said with a smile.

Most designers use a mood board but with Sui, it’s a delicious mood wall, this season filled with neon tweed fabrics, Florida souvenir print scarves, Brigitte Bardot, Andy Warhol’s pre-Pop drawings, sketches and watercolors fabrics. She calls it her “Sally Go’ Round the Roses” collection, a nod to the ‘60s hit by the The Jaynetts.

It shook out into a delightfully playful and colorful mix-and-match multicolored collection, styled together in the way that only Sui can. Ruffled babydoll dresses, lingerie prints on printed lace, a floral pattern on petal pushers mixed with a blouse over a T-shirt and matching bags, gingham dresses with gathered cutouts, terry cloth pool shorts and bra tops. “I wanted that innocence and freshness,” she said, styling many looks with head scarves, vintage bags, sheer socks and colorful pointy kitten heels by John Fluevog.

Sui’s assortment shows she has her finger on the pulse of how modern youth dress, mixing and matching vintage with new, creating a unique look. But there is plenty here for the people who have followed her for decades. A look at her men’s assortment on ssense.com shows there is plenty here for any gender, too.

Many designers look back to the ‘60s for inspiration — several this week in New York alone — but with Sui there is an authenticity in her clothes that feels playful, eye catching and most of all fun.
