Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu team up for Wimbledon

Andy Murray's Wimbledon hopes aren't completely dashed this year. Although the 37-year-old Scot won't be playing in the men's singles tournament due to not feeling fighting fit, he has committed to play in the doubles: and not only with his brother, Jamie, in the mens' competition, but also with tennis bright young thing, Emma Raducanu, in the mixed tournament.

The pair were chosen as a wild-card entry, marking the first time that they have ever played together, despite the idea being floated in the past. Murray previously played in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon with Serena Williams, back in 2019.

The twice-Wimbledon champion has a busy few days ahead; he plays with brother Jamie tomorrow, and then Emma at the weekend.

The 21-year-old former US Open winner Raducanu has played against Murray before, in a "Battle of the Brits" competition back in 2020, when there was a hiatus from Wimbledon due to Covid.

One of the most promising players of her generation, Raducanu has had a stellar rise to the top, after being plucked from relative obscurity and selected as a wild card for Wimbledon back in 2021. The following month, she went on to make history as the winner of the US Open, only her second ever Open tournament.

Since then, she has been courted by top fashion brands, including Tiffany & Co, Dior and Nike, and was an attendee at the 2022 Met Gala (wearing Chanel, no less). Recently, she was a front row guest at Dior's cruise show, which took place at Drummond Castle in Scotland, to which she wore a mini-dress that had a distinctly tennis-inspired feel.

In the past two years, her career has been blighted by injury, and she was forced to pull out of Wimbledon in 2023. But with a solid win in her opening game of Wimbledon earlier this week, she looks set to be back on track.

Murray isn't Raducanu's first famous doubles partner either: in 2022, she teamed up with the Princess of Wales for a quick game during a visit to the National Tennis Centre in South West London.
