Amanda Abbington urges listeners to 'be kind' following Strictly Come Dancing exit

Amanda Abbington has urged her radio listeners to "be kind" following her departure from Strictly Come Dancing.

The Sherlock actress shared on her Boogaloo Radio show on Monday night that she has been subjected to "horrible things" on social media since she withdrew from the competition last week due to personal reasons.

The 51-year-old urged her listeners to consider the impact of their words because they don't know what others are going through in private.

"My thing at the moment is 'be kind', it's always been 'be kind,'" she said, reports Mail Online. "It's 'you don't know what someone else is going through, you have no idea what's going on in their life so before you say anything hateful and cruel just check yourself.'"

She continued, "It takes so much more energy to be hateful, to be horrible, where you could just not say anything or say something positive.

"We're living in a world where the laptop and the phone and social media allows you to say whatever you want without any recrimination, and you have no idea what that comment could do to someone – it could push someone over the edge to do something and God knows we have to look after each other."

Despite the online abuse, the Mr Selfridge actress told her radio co-host Sue Vincent that she was doing "really good".

In her exit statement last week, Amanda failed to mention her dance partner Giovanni Pernice, fuelling speculation that they didn't get along.

"It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue," she wrote.
