Alison Hammond breaks down in tears after talking about her rarely-seen boyfriend on This Morning
Viewers who phoned in to This Morning on Wednesday 13 November reduced host Alison Hammond to tears during a segment about acts of kindness. Alison and co-host Cat Deeley were chatting to author Rosie Nixon about her book Be Kind, and they were marking World Kindness Day by asking people to phone in and talk about kind moments they had experienced.
One caller named Abigail said that her father’s sight is deteriorating, which means in the future he would not be able to see his daughter in a wedding dress. She revealed that a local woman had invited them both into her bridal store to try some dresses on, so Abigail’s dad could see his daughter in a gown and have that memory. Alison said: “This is making me emotional!” as she spoke about it, and then had to wipe away a tear while author Rosie commented: “Don’t because you’ll set me off!”
Alison, 49, also spoke about her boyfriend David during the chat, after she listened to a caller who revealed it was Alison who had been the kind person to her. The viewer, whose name is Anita, started by saying that they had met on a Pullman train. She said: “Alison Hammond you are a wonderful person who made a lady feel so special.”

“My husband was the guard [on the train] and I had been invited on because I had just finished chemo and radiotherapy.”
Alison remembered Anita, saying “I remember you, you came into my cabin area!” and Anita added: “You never rushed me out, you asked me everything I'd gone through, how much weight I'd lost.”
She went on: "Alison, I know you're from the Midlands, we're such special people. We've always got a smile and a kind word. I'm like yourself, I'm kind, but sometimes you do get hurt being kind. But you, Alison, I can't tell you what you did that day."
As they said goodbye, Alison pointed out that Anita had just done something very thoughtful herself – she had not mentioned who Alison was with on the train that day: “Anita, whats lovely about you, you've haven't mentioned who I was with.”
"That was my very first date with my boyfriend. You met my boyfriend before anybody else knew about it!"
Alison, who is currently presenting The Great British Bake Off as well as This Morning, keeps her romantic life private, though it was revealed earlier this year that she was in a relationship with 26 year old David Putnam, with the pair having dated since December last year.
