Alan Shearer breaks silence on daughter's Hollie's engagement with heartfelt comment
Football icon Alan Shearer has broken his silence on his daughter Hollie’s engagement to boyfriend Joe Marchant, by commenting on her social media post. Hollie and Joe announced their engagement on Friday 8 November in a Parisian post featuring Hollie showing off her engagement ring alongside her fiance, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. She captioned it: “BEST DAY EVER!! Got to say yes to my favourite person.”
Proud dad Alan commented on her news by posting a series of hand clap and heart-eyes emojis, leading one fan to ask him: “Did he get your permission first?!” Rugby Union’s Marcus Smith also commented by saying: “Congratulations marchánt buzzing for you both,” while fellow players Maro Itoje, Alex Dombrandt and Ben Earl also sent their congratulations.
Hollie, 29 and Joe, 28, have been together since early 2022 and relocated to Paris after Joe moved to play for Stade Francais last year. In August, Hollie shared a look at her new home in the French capital, including their cosy living room with white painted walls and huge windows overlooking the city, and a bedroom featuring a large gold mirror, more neutral decor and wooden floors.

Hollie and rugby player Joe first confirmed their romance on Instagram back in April 2022 during a dreamy getaway to Dubai, sharing cosy photos together. Previously when asked about his daughter’s choice of partner, dad Alan joked: “I’m just glad it’s not a footballer.”
Hollie is a fashion influencer and a singer with 50,000 Instagram followers, and she often gives fans a glimpse into her glamorous lifestyle. The singer-songwriter, who describes herself as "Just a girl wishing she lived in Nashville", has a contemporary country sound and has gained over 30,000 listeners on Spotify. She dropped her debut single Love You Better in May 2021 and has received support from big names including Scarlett Moffatt, Ant and Dec, and her dad Alan.
Joe is a successful rugby player who has made over 150 appearances for boyhood club Quins and won the Premiership title in 2021 before moving abroad. The England centre has also earned 27 caps and was part of the team that clinched third place at the World Cup in 2023.
Alan and his wife Lainya are proud parents to Hollie, as well as their other kids Chloe, 33, and Will, 23. The couple met while Alan was playing for Southampton and got married in an intimate ceremony on June 8, 1991.
