Aaron Carter's ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, has confirmed through a DNA test that the late pop star is indeed the father of her young son, Prince. Splitting and reuniting throughout 2020 to 2022 with Aaron, Melanie revealed to TMZ that after enduring persistent "baseless" rumours, the DNA results have conclusively established Prince's paternity "without a shadow of a doubt".

Opening up to PEOPLE, she shared: "We're doing good. He will be turning three soon. [We are] lucky to have each other. He's the best little boy, and he's really smart." Prince arrived in the world on November 22, 2021, and Aaron was ecstatic about his new role as a dad at the time.

Talking to PEOPLE, he expressed his commitment: "We both were trying for it. I'm just focused on the future and being a dad. I want to be a good dad. I'm focused, my music career has been doing really well, and touring, having my clothing line out, all that stuff I have going for me that isn't necessarily just music. Family is most important to me."

Tragically, Aaron passed away on November 5, 2022, at only 34 years old. He was found dead in a bath tub in his home Lancaster, California. His unexpected death was later linked to drowning, contributed to by inhaling difluoroethane and using alprazolam, better known as Xanax.

Melanie told TMZ at the time that the findings "are not closure for me". She said: "It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a T-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which don’t make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on? I am still in shock and still miss Aaron every day. I don’t understand the chain of events and this report only has us asking more questions."

The death of Aaron, who is the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, was announced in November last year.

A representative of Carter's team confirmed the news to the PA news agency. In a statement, they said: "We are extremely saddened and shocked to confirm the passing of Aaron Carter today.
