This $8.99 ALDI Steak Is a Omaha Steaks Dupe (and Cheaper)

I'm grilling them all summer long.

As soon as the weather warms up, my family fires up the grill at least once a week, and one of our absolute favorite foods to grill is steak. However, have you seen the price of steak these days? It's so expensive! Fortunately, the answer to many of my life’s problems (at least when it comes to food) can be found at ALDI.

My family absolutely adores the steaks at ALDI.

We’ve tried the Morton’s of Omaha peppercorn steaks, and we’ve often gotten the Cattlemen’s Ranch bacon-wrapped chuck tender filets, but our new favorite is Wright USDA Choice Bacon Wrapped Sirloin Filet.

What’s So Great About Wright Bacon Wrapped Sirloin Steaks

These sirloin steaks are sold two to a package, and they sell for $8.99 per pound. The two steaks equal almost a pound of meat. For my family, that means we need two packages—one each for my husband and me and at least one, usually one and a half, for our 14-year-old son.

I simply season the steaks with sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. If I have time, I will marinate them in a mixture of wine and seasonings, but you don’t have to.

When we have time on weekends, we cook them on the grill. If we don’t have time, I heat a pan over high heat, add a little bit of ghee and olive oil, and sear them on each side for about two minutes. Then, I pop the whole pan into a 375°F oven for about 10 minutes for medium-rare.

My son likes his steak with sauces so I will either make a mushroom-wine sauce—sauté mushrooms and shallots in butter, then add wine and beef stock and thicken with corn starch—or a béarnaise sauce with equal parts white wine and white wine vinegar with shallots, cooked down, then butter, egg yolks, and tarragon or chives.

These steaks, however, don’t need any sauce. Cooked to a perfectly medium-rare, they’re juicy, tender, and flavorful. I know that I will be buying more of these sirloin steaks this summer, especially when the temperature calls for grilling.

A Great Deal

Since these steaks cost just a little over $4 per steak, they’re a steal—especially since a four-pack of sirloins from Omaha Steaks costs about $55, and a four-pack of bacon-wrapped sirloins from Kansas City Steaks costs nearly $70.

Though I haven’t had Kansas City Steaks, I’ve had Omaha Steaks, and they’re good, but I can’t justify the price, especially when my son can eat two steaks at a time, and ALDI’s got delicious, fork-tender steaks just waiting for me in the cooler.
