At 67, Denise Austin Demonstrates ‘1-Minute’ Fat-Burning Exercise

Fitness icon Denise Austin regularly shares targeted workout videos on Instagram (check out her tips for toned abs, lifted glutes, and a strong upper body). Now, to kick off the new year, Austin is demonstrating a quick, calorie-burning cardio workout to add to your routine.

“Let’s BLAST FAT in just one minute!!! Start your weekend feeling GREAT...you can do it!!! Xoxo,” the 67-year-old captioned the Instagram video. “If you’re watching this I want you to get up and move with me! We’re gonna blast some fat—just one-minute burners,” said to kick off the clip.

In the video, Austin begins by standing on a workout mat with a slight bend at the waist. She steps her right leg back and to the opposite side of the mat, in a curtsy. During this movement, she stretches her arms down and back, performing a tricep kickback, then hops to the other foot and performs the move on the other side. “We’re working side to side, that’s it,” Austin explains.

Looking to up the ante? Austin shared an option for those looking to intensify the movement. “Now if you really wanna blast some fat, pick up the pace and do a little plyometrics—lift!” she says, while adding a small jump between each hop to the side.

While the move is a great addition to any cardio workout, the fitness star shared that the exercise is also “good for your bones” and “good for your muscles” as she instructs viewers to perform the move for one minute. “You’ll feel so good,” Austin adds in the video.

According to the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), plyometric training is defined as quick, powerful movements involving a system of reactive exercises, often characterized by bounding, hops, and jumps. One study showed that plyometric exercises were a safe and effective way to increase bone mineral density in adults aged 18 to 65 while another systematic review concluded that plyometrics effectively improved muscular strength, bone health, body composition, postural stability, and jump and physical performance in adults over 60.

We love that Austin continues to inspire women of all ages and reminds us that staying active doesn’t have to be difficult. While we await her next fitness tutorial, we’ll be stocking up on some Austin-approved gear to make the most of her workouts in 2025.
