6 Cheaper Places Boomers Are Moving To in 2025, According to Real Estate Experts
Every generation needs to practice frugality — at least to some extent — if they want to not only build but maintain wealth. But it’s particularly crucial for boomers, many of whom are retired and living on fixed incomes, to live below their means. Their best bet could be to relocate to a cheaper city than where they currently live.

GOBankingRates spoke with real estate experts to find out which cheap — or cheaper — cities boomers are moving to in 2025. Below are six emerging top choices.
Grand Junction, Colorado
One area picking up steam among boomers on the move is Grand Junction, a city in Colorado’s Western Slope region. It’s far more affordable than nearby Denver and just as gorgeous in terms of natural scenery.
“The median home price is approximately $375,000, which is well under Denver’s over $600,000 price point, and enables people to live the Colorado dream without spending an arm and a leg,” said Brett Johnson, owner at New Era Home Buyers. “Further, the city’s proximity to things like the Colorado National Monument and the pleasant weather make it a draw for those who want to be outside and enjoy nature.”

Decatur, Georgia
Atlanta has become a hotspot for retirees, but it might be coming in second to the Georgia cities that Leah Robinson-Christian, associate broker at Engel & Völkers Atlanta, is seeing gain boomer residents in 2025. First up is Decatur.
“Recognized as the top place to move to in Georgia and ranked fifth nationally, Decatur appeals to those seeking a smaller urban environment,” Robinson-Christian said. “The city boasts homes priced below the national average of $343,000, making it an affordable option for many retirees. Its vibrant community and accessible amenities further enhance its appeal.”
Peachtree City, Georgia
Peachtree City, about 32 miles from Atlanta, is also becoming increasingly attractive to boomers in 2025.
“Known for its unique network of golf cart paths and a strong sense of community, Peachtree City is an appealing destination for retirees who value an active, outdoor lifestyle,” Robinson-Christian said. “With plenty of parks, lakes and recreational opportunities, it offers a laid-back yet vibrant lifestyle. The area also has affordable housing options relative to other retirement-friendly cities, making it ideal for those looking to stretch their retirement savings.”
Northcrest, Georgia
Another Georgia city that can be cheaper than others and is gaining boomer residents in 2025 is Northcrest.
“Established in 1959, Northcrest offers mid-century modern homes that attract retirees interested in architectural charm and a strong neighborhood feel,” Robinson-Christian said. “Located just north of I-285 and approximately 11 miles from downtown Atlanta, it provides a suburban atmosphere with convenient city access.”
Palm Coast, Florida
There is no shortage of boomers living in Florida. It’s projected that 32.5% of the state’s population will be made up of people ages 60 and older by 2030. But some cities in Florida, such as Miami or Boca Raton, can be prohibitively expensive for boomers. Those looking to enjoy a more affordable life in this most desirable state are checking out Palm Coast.
“Palm Coast is a quiet place with urban and rural living,” said Alexei Morgado, realtor, CEO and founder at Lexawise. “For this reason, it has been quite appealing to retirees. In December 2024, the median sold price was $357,983, down 0.5% from a year ago. The median price per square foot was $198.”
Various Cities in Mexico
More and more people are heading to Mexico to spend their golden years there.
“There are dozens of cities our clients are moving to but some of the most popular are Playa del Carmen, Ajijic, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Guadalajara, Queretaro and Mexico City,” said Mariana Lange, founder at Mexico Relocation Guide. “It’s not unusual for our clients to save 30%-40% on their overall cost of living by simply moving to Mexico. Their housing is cheaper, their healthcare is far more affordable and their overall quality of life improves significantly.”
