At 50, Eva Mendes has a lax approach to cosmetic procedure regret
As shame and secrecy are lifted from Hollywood’s cosmetic procedure habit, more and more stars are sharing their experiences with them, and Eva Mendes is up to bat. The 50-year-old opened up about “regretting” getting certain things done. Even so, she remains undeterred from trying the next new nip.
“I’m not afraid to try things that are safe, because most of these little treatments, let’s say, are reversible,” she recently told The Times. “If you get Botox, it goes away if you don’t like it. There have been times where I’ve regretted something…and then you just wait it out.”
Edward Lee, M.D., chief, division of plastic surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, previously said that Botox, specifically, takes two to seven days to settle and freeze wrinkles, and those effects typically last for three to four months before a re-up is needed. As with any drug, there are potential side effects, including possible migration outside the injection area which can lead to muscle weakness, double vision, urinary incontinence, or difficulty breathing or speaking. The less intense, more common symptoms are headache, bruising, and a drooping brow or eyelid.
Mendes didn’t detail all the procedures she has tried, however, in discussing her recent 50th birthday, she did joke that she may undergo a laser treatment to tweak her jaw, which she said is getting “funky” with age. Reflecting inward, she said she also noticed that she feels “extra spacey” in midlife. “I forget everything. I think that’s part of being 50,” she said. “I think I’m looking down the barrel of hormonal changes.”
Other than that, hitting the big 5-0 didn’t bother the actress. “It was totally fine. It’s just that number sounds crazy,” she says. “I feel like a girl inside and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’m not a girl any more.’”
