DASH diet remains at No 1
Diet trends come and go, but it seems like the DASH diet is sticking around.
It's been named the No 1 Best Overall Diet by US News and World Report for eight years in a row because of its effectiveness at helping people lower blood pressure, lose weight, and improve heart health.
DASH diet rules of thumb: Eat lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, and whole grains - and avoid saturated and trans fats found in processed foods. Instead, look to heart healthy fats such as the kind in olive oil and nuts. Eat red meat only two or three days a week, otherwise stick to fish, poultry and eggs - and keep dairy low in fat.
