Police in Australia rescue drowning kangaroo

Police officers in Australia have been filmed wading into the sea off Rosebud, Victoria, in an attempt to save a drowning kangaroo.

Victoria Police said a sergeant and a senior sergeant responded to calls about a distressed animal, which "began to swim but got into difficulty in the swell and breaking waves and went under water a couple of times."

The officers jumped into the water and carried the unconscious kangaroo to shore, where they resuscitated it and wrapped it in blankets.

The marsupial was treated at a local wildlife centre and was in "good spirits and lucky to be alive given the amount of salt water he inhaled", police said.
